说起Mick Harvey，人们总是把他和其澳洲同乡兼初中同学Nick Cave联系在一起。从1977年共组建朋客乐队Boys Next Door(1977-1980)开始至今，Mick就一直是Nick坚实的左膀（右臂一直在换~~）。The Birthday Party(1980-1983)解散后，Mick除了是The Bad Seeds(1984 至今)的一员外（Nick曾经说，要不是Mick的热烈提议，The Bad Seeds根本就不会成立），Mick还是由Simon Bonney领军的Crime and the City Solution(1985-1991)的吉他手与鼓手。同时，凡是参加过The Bad Seeds的家伙，他们的个人作业中几乎都能看到Mick的身影。作为乐手，他的稳重——不论为人还是音乐——永远是所在乐队得以维持平衡的基石，而几乎无所不包的多种乐器演奏能力，更是人员紧缺时的超级万金油：《The Carny》中，他一个人包办了钢琴、风琴、木琴、钟琴、吉他，成功的为乐队演出了一曲阴郁的马戏团之歌。而作为制作人——90年代名声雀起的PJ Harvey的成功，Mick绝对功不可莫。同时，由他监制的另一位不那么出名的女子：Anita Lane的两张专辑亦是水准之作。这两个女人气质截然相反，但他把握的同样出色，这正是他才能的证明。除此之外，他所有的精力都集中在影视配乐上了。用他自己的话来说，他不是一个Songwriter，而是一个音乐人。到上个月为止他一共出了11部配乐专辑！或许是性格使然，在他踏入音乐圈整整18年后，才第一次开了金口，唱出自己第一张Solo专辑：1995年推出的《Intoxicated Man》。这是一张翻唱法国传奇音乐人，1991年去世的Serge Gainsbourg歌曲的专辑。尽管是翻唱，但贴切的英语翻译，奇思的选曲，完美的编曲，和Mick那好得出人意料的Lonard Cohen式的庸懒歌声，仍旧成功的把Mick Harvey带出了他周围那些天才歌者的阴影。1997年他发表了Gainsbourg翻唱专辑第二号——《Pink Elephants》，至此终于“平息了Gainsbourg的鬼魂”。到目前为止，他没有发表过其他Solo专辑。
