提起Big Black，国内的乐迷可能相对比较陌生。但大家都知道该乐队的灵魂人物--大名鼎鼎的Steve Albini。这厮制作（按他自己的话是“录音”）了Pixes、Nirvana、PJ Harvey、Jesus Lizard等的经典专辑。在这个庞大的数字中，我们能发现一个共同点--黑白两极化的声音处理。这使得音乐再现了最富有棱角和攻击力的摇滚本能。Big Black是Albini真正形成自己艺术观念的乐队。我们不能仅仅因为其中的狂暴和极端将它简单的归于Punk或者是Hardcore，其实一种高度的理性和天才的智慧一支驾驭着乐队的声音。

在90年代初的一次访谈中，Albini说过：“我认为好的音乐首先要给人一种震慑力,让人一听就会被感应”。因此，作为吉他手，他选择了一种非常尖锐刺耳的音色。听过Gang of Four或者PIL的人，会找到Albini的根源。但Big Black的音乐更重，更加狂暴。这应该归功于，乐队使用了鼓机和强有力的Bass line。“我不认为把指板搞的滚瓜烂熟非常重要，相对而言，我更在乎音色大胆直接和歌曲的张力。”正如Albini所说，Big Black用高速的节奏变换掀起了一浪又一浪高潮，将听者始终至于亢奋状态。听他们的音乐只有一个字--爽！无论从那些挑衅的歌词：“I think I [内容被过滤，请注意论坛文明]ed all your Friends’girlfriends，maybe once，maybe twice，I don’t remember”---Bad penny，还是那犹如射精一样的吉他狂舞和闷雷一样的低音部。即使是在Albini制作的专辑中也到处可闻这种棱角分明的毛胚。现在，突然想到了一个可爱的名字：Pussy glore，人们不会像谈论Sonic Youth一样称他们为大师，因为他们永远是血气方刚的少年，不成熟，有点愣头愣脑，但充满了创造力。让我们抱着吉他从朋克开始起步，然后加点狗屁先锋，狗屁Pop，最后也开始像狗屁大师们看齐。我操！夜叉有一句歌词叫：“我操这阉割时代”。突然有一天，发现自己深沉了，内省了，抒情了。不是说这些绝对不好，而是我们是不是真正具有自己的立场和态度。你不想听阳痿的摇滚，同样，摇滚乐也治不了没有立场没有态度的人的阳痿。

the last Big Black studio album, ups the aggression ante on almost every front. The music is more bombastic, the production is harsher, and the lyrics are even more confrontational, delivered even more stridently than before. Rather than riding out the inevitable process of decaying into a watered-down travesty of itself, the band was determined to leave as big a smear across the pavement on the way down as possible.

From the opening "The Power Of Independent Trucking," a hopped-up crash course through the intersection of punk and industrial, Big Black takes no prisoners. A cover of Kraftwerk's "The Model" shows that no cow is too sacred for Albini, as does the disc's bonus track, a stunningly fuzzy cover of "He's A Whore," originally by fellow Chicago-ans, Cheap Trick. The clanging "Fish Fry" is a charming assault addressing the topic of murder at a drive-in. The band even provides its very own theme song, a 35-second bruiser called "Bombastic Intro." Rarely has a mere album been so brutal. this album can be cited as an indelible influence on the mid-to-late-'90s glut of techno-industrial bands.
