专辑介绍：

听过美国纽约音乐人Michael Gira领军乐团Angels Of Light的新专辑，嘴巴本能地弹出了「蛮动听」三个字。然而我在八十年代所认识到昔日Gira的乐队Swans，却怎也不能跟「动听」掛勾。

早年的Swans，便曾被视为一个儼如洪水猛兽的名字。从前他们的作品在性与死亡的命题下，都极尽暴戾、嘈吵、闇黑与痛苦之能事，以音乐来勾勒出Gira的梦魘，引用一个老掉了牙的说法︰听完Swans的唱片会发噩梦。在当年纽约的地下音乐体系（或所谓Noisenik体系），Swans就是这样跟Sonic Youth分庭伉礼。

他们的84年专辑Cop，这张黑胶唱片迄今仍是我的「发泄」极品，还依足封面上的说明"This record is designed to be played at maximum volume"，扭大音量播放。

天鹅美学

最早让Michael Gira跟「动听」扯上关係，是他与Swans的女将Jarboe另组成的Side Project组合Skin，87年的一张Blood, Women, Roses专辑的确很美丽动听，流露着Jarboe的古典音乐薰陶，甚至当年被拿来跟This Mortal Coil的声音作相提并论。

其实自Jarboe在86年加入后，她倒为Swans提供了不少「音乐感」——还不要忘记，在89年Swans便曾在附属主流公司MCA旗下的Uni Records推出过一张Michael Gira联同Bill Laswell监製的The Burning World，是他们历来最修饰的专辑——而且Swans亦比Sonic Youth更早加盟主流公司，虽然这是他们跟主流公司的「只此一次」合作──到底Gira又怎会跟一间主流公司得以和平共处呢？

况且他们在之前一年把重玩Joy Division的Love Will Tear Us Apart发表成单曲，那亦是多么触动人心的詮释。

今天Swans已名存实亡多时，Gira现在的身分是Angels Of Light。

2005年，Gira联同他的宠儿Akron/Family现身。Gira的自家厂牌Young God Records在同一天里，便一拼为Angels Of Light及Akron/Family发表了新专辑，实行双管齐下地出击。而Akron/Family便正是Angels Of Light的现任伴奏乐团，好一个音乐小家庭姿态。

天使之光

从97年把Swans解散到随即另组成Angels Of Light，看到是Gira决心要摆脱他旧有音乐/音响模式，而展开一个以歌曲为基调的Project。大抵他不想受到乐手形式的羈绊，所以Angels Of Light并没有固定阵容。来到其第四张专辑The Angels Of Lights Sing "Other People"，他便交由他一手发掘的年轻乐队Akron/Family作为班底。

单看唱片名字，你可能会以为这是一张改编专辑，实情此乃围绕一堆人物为题的唱片，当中有Gira的朋友，也有他崇拜的英雄，以及我们熟悉的人物如Michael Jackson(Michael's White Hands)、布殊(Destroyer)等等。

唱片开场曲Lena's Song，所摇曳出已是多么美不胜收的情怀。近年Gira的音乐取向已愈来愈Down To Earth，而这张新作的动听之处，是他锐意打造出一张近乎Acoustic Folk的唱片，把插电的乐器减到最少，甚至更为歌曲作出了一个限制——不採用鼓击（全碟真的只有在Simon Is Stronger Than Us末尾出现了十秒鼓声而已），节奏基础便全由低音结他与Double Bass奏出。

整张专辑，基本上都是处於淡淡然的状态，像On The Mountain的Country更觉Laidback非常，所以My Friend Thor那曇花一现的印尼敲击乐己见神来之笔。再听听Simon Is Stronger Than Us和Purple Creek，都有着迷幻民歌的扭曲感。而唱道"Michael kill the child inside"的 Michael's White Hands，更毋须任何鼓乐节拍也可以如斯紧凑慑人且带有Gothic邪气而来。
